After the successful health fair last June for the Maasai in Kenya, David Weeks ’73 and his Wings of Hope team assessed the quality of the small medical dispensary serving more than a 1000 patients a month. As fellow traveler Patty Potter ’73 shared in her August Wings of Hope article, valuable improvements were made by the team to advance the quality of the facility. Now, with two delivery and recovery beds and a fully functioning bathroom with a shower and western toilet, this small dispensary can better serve women needing childbirth support.
To further advance the quality of this medical dispensary, the local medical staff has cited three priorities: flooring, solar energy and interior painting. To better sanitize the delivery and recovery rooms, vinyl flooring will be installed coupled with tile work for the other floor space. Vaccinations in need of refrigeration have had to be transported to the local town when electric power has been disrupted. With a solar panel, electrical energy will be reliable. Finally, painting the interior will add to the sanitization of the facility. A total of $6,410.00 is needed to support these improvements. Friends of Wings of Hope can make online donations at www.supportwingsofhope.org to assist in realizing these projects.
