Chindwin Medical and Humanitarian Network Partnership
An expert in rehabilitation medicine, Dr. Aung Chan (Andrew) Thu has great compassion for the traumatized Burmese in the Sagaing Region of Myanmar, who have suffered from the militant actions of the Myanmar Military Coup since 2021. Dr. Thu serves as the Executive Director of the Chindwin Medical and Humanitarian Network and is currently working in Maryland to assist afflicted Burmese with needed resources. Wings of Hope Global Cooperative Board member Khin Rupa Maung introduced Dr. Thu to David Weeks. Mr. Weeks is impressed with Chindwin’s record of achievement and Dr. Thu’s dedication to realizing its mission of providing primary and emergency health care for internally displaced people in Myanmar.
Wings of Hope Global Cooperative funds will be targeted to providing a stipend for a mental health professional and therapeutic materials for a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) program. A vocational training counselor with its corresponding educational materials will be supported to promote self-sufficiency for the Burmese in Myanmar. Additionally, funds will be needed to support the making of safe delivery kits for pregnant women.
Kenya
Osiligi Foundation
The Osiligi Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of health care and preserving the cultural integrity of the Maasai people in the Narok region of Kenya. Osiligi President Kikanae Punyua has partnered with David Weeks of Wings of Hope Global Cooperative to advance the quality of health care for the 20,000 Maasai in this rural community by establishing the Osiligi Medical Dispensary for maternal and emergency care as well as the Osiligi Medical Complex providing services in dentistry, ophthalmology, and pharmaceutical distribution. Presently, the Narok Health Department is supporting these two constructed facilities.
The Osiligi Foundation and the Wings of Hope Global Cooperative are partnering in the construction of the Osiligi Maternal Hospital that will support more complicated birthing procedures and will provide postpartum residential care for mothers and babies. The estimated construction cost for this two-story medical facility is $800,000.00 of which half will be supported by the Narok government and the remaining $400,000.00 will need to be raised by the Wings of Hope Global Cooperative and the Osiligi Foundation. Additional funds will be needed to support the marketing and infrastructural partnership that has been established with the Build Health International nonprofit for this project.
Ghana
Salih Self Development Center
The Salih Self Development Center Inc. has been dedicated to empowering youth with vocational skills in the impoverished township of Aboabo in Kumasi, Ghana. David Weeks assisted President Ibrahim (Anyars) Salih in the development of Salih Center’s successful sewing program and has collaborated in the purchase of land, the installation of a well and the construction of a caretaker cottage on property that will house a vocational center.
This new Salih Center for vocational training would empower youth with skills in sewing and construction work such as carpentry, welding, and plumbing. Ibrahim Salih serves as a Board member for the Wings of Hope Global Cooperative and will be working with onsite supervisor Dr. Murtada Mahmoud, who is a university lecturer and principal of Al Kitaab Academy in Kumasi. The estimated cost of the new Salih Center for vocational training is $500,000.00. Presently, a protective wall for the facility is in need of construction. The vocational training center will strengthen the Ghanaean workforce and provide youth with valuable skills for independent living.
Guinea
Wells of Hope Africa
Parasites in surface water and waterborne diseases have caused great suffering to impoverished people. Drilling for fresh water and making it easily accessible has been health giving to people in need and has eased the burden on those who have had to carry it home from distant water sources. N’Mah Keita and her daughter Aicha founded Wells of Hope Africa in 2020 with the installation of a village well in Guinea.
N’Mah Keita has joined the Wings of Hope Global Cooperative Board and with her daughter will continue to promote the Wells of Hope mission to provide healthy water to other villages in Guinea. The Wings of Hope Global Cooperative is fortunate to have the civil engineer and project management experience of N’Mah Keita’s uncle Bafode Doukoure, who, as the on-site project manager, will work with local Guinean contractors on the next well installation that will cost $5,988.00.
