The Importance of Vocational Training Programs

Founded by Ibrahim “Anyars” Salih, the Center provides vocational training in sewing for impoverished youth in Kumasi. Those who have graduated from the Salih sewing program have gained valuable workplace skills. As a result of their education, the graduates have improved the quality of their lives. One of these graduates traveled to Cameroon, married, started her family, and opened her own tailoring shop.

Presently, the Salih Self-Development Center owns two acres of land on the outskirts of Kumasi, with an installed well and a caretaker cottage. It plans to move the sewing center from its urban rented space to a planned vocational training facility which will also include vocational programs in carpentry, plumbing, welding and electrical work.

Project Overview

This new Salih Center for vocational training would empower youth with skills in sewing and construction work such as carpentry, welding and plumbing. Ibrahim Salih serves as a Board member for the Wings of Hope Global Cooperative and will be working with onsite supervisor Dr. Murtada Mahmoud, who is a university lecturer and principal of Al Kitaab Academy in Kumasi.

The estimated cost of the new Salih Center for vocational training is $500,000.00. This project will strengthen the workforce and provide youth with valuable skills for independent living.
